# SCARS Institute Whole-Person Recovery Inventory

Personality, Trauma, Vulnerability, Recovery, Functioning, and Safety · 200 Statements in 20 Sections

## Your Privacy Is Protected

#### We never see your identity

Your responses are processed in your browser and your email. Only you see any identifying information about you. The name or identifier you enter stays on your device and is never sent.

#### De-identified data supports research

With your permission and your identity removed, your de-identified answers are sent to the SCARS Institute for scientific research only. Data is never shared with third parties.

#### Save your work and return later

You have the option to save your work and return later as you wish. This inventory is long, and each completed section is saved to the SCARS Institute under a resume code, without your identity. Your resume code is the only way to bring your answers back, so keep it somewhere safe.

The SCARS Institute provides this inventory to help you see what belongs to your enduring personality, what changed after the scam, what remains vulnerable, what has already grown stronger, and where professional help is needed. You can save your results to share with your therapist or mental health professional.

I give my consent for my fully de-identified assessment data to be used for research purposes only. I understand that all personal identifiers have been removed from my responses, this information will not be shared with any third parties, and my participation is completely voluntary.

## Start or Continue

The inventory has 200 statements in 20 sections and takes most people more than one sitting. Completing more than two major parts in one day tends to produce fatigue and less reliable answers, so plan to spread it out.

## About This Inventory

This inventory gives a structured look at your enduring personality, your trauma-related injuries, your continuing vulnerabilities, your recovery strengths, your daily functioning, and your need for professional help. It does not reduce you to a single score. It separates the stable parts of who you are from the changes that came with victimization, trauma, grief, coercion, isolation, and prolonged stress, so that trauma symptoms are not mistaken for character defects.

Vulnerability does not mean responsibility. A scam victim often remains vulnerable because of attachment injury, conditioned responses, damaged confidence, isolation, grief, cognitive exhaustion, or continuing manipulation. Those conditions mark areas that need protection and support. They do not assign blame for the crime.

Answer according to your lived experience rather than the answer that looks healthiest, strongest, or most acceptable. Honest answers create a useful recovery profile. Favorable answers create an inaccurate one. Work in a quiet setting without pressure to finish quickly.

0 — Not true at all

1 — Slightly true

2 — Partly or sometimes true

3 — Mostly or often true

4 — Very true or consistently true

Sections A through E ask for two ratings on each statement: how true it was in your most stable adult years before the scam, and how true it has been in the past 30 days. Every later section asks about the past 30 days only. Section T, on safety, uses its own scale, and each of its statements is reviewed on its own.

Your resume code

Write this down or email it to yourself now. It is the only way to bring your saved answers back, on this device or another. It links to your answers only, never to you.

**Please Note.** This inventory was developed by the scientists and psychologists at the SCARS Institute based on experience working with large numbers of scam victims. It is a structured self-assessment and recovery-planning instrument, not a psychiatric diagnosis. A qualified professional should evaluate severe symptoms, safety concerns, major functional impairment, substance dependence, psychosis, mania, or thoughts of self-harm. We recommend taking a copy of your results to share with your counselor or therapist.

## Participant Information

Every field is optional. The name or identifier stays on this device and appears only in your own downloaded copy. The rest is stored with your de-identified answers because it helps the research and helps a professional read your profile.

**Your answers are saved as you go.** Each answer is kept in this browser, and every finished section is saved to the SCARS Institute under your resume code. If you close the page mid-section, the answers of that section are still on this device.
